Digital Citizenship Resources for Parents
Common Sense Media is one of the best free resources available on the Internet for parents to help their kids navigate all aspects of digital citizenship: online safety, privacy, plagiarism, research, and cyberbullying. It also provides reviews of movies, TV shows, video games, websites, and apps. Take some time to check out this website. I will also share specific pages and information from this website later on.
Digizen is another great resource. We used a lesson from this website in class the other day. This activity allowed students to be "Social Networking Detectives". They examined a fake profile on "Friendbook" (like Facebook) to see if they could spot unsafe, inappropriate, or irresponsible choices made by the teen "Friendbook" user. After pointing out the good, the bad, and the ugly of the profile page, we spent some time discussing safe Internet practices.
